Disaster: Day of Crisis Delayed

May 17th, 2008

disaster-day-of-crisis-copy.jpg

For all of you out there that were looking forward to this new IP, it is important that you know that it will not be meeting it’s Japanese July release date.  This means that you might not be getting a taste of this game until 2009. It is delayed indefinitely, so it is unlikely this game will hit US Shores in 2008.

PlatinumGames Inc. teams up with Sega

May 16th, 2008

mad_0502_0091.JPG

Sega announced yesterday they have formed a new partnership with PlatinumGames Inc. Why should we care? Simple: PlatinumGames is a studio founded (in part) by ex-members of Clover Studios, the sweet little studio who brought us Okami and God Hand.

It seems PlatinumGames has four titles lined up which will now be released under the Sega banner. The first, a Wii exclusive title MadWorld (pictured above) is set for release in early 2009. Madworld is directed by Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Devil May Cry and Veiewtiful Joe franchises. He also directed Okami, and with all that credit, this is a title to keep your eye on over the next 12 months.

Also announced was Bayonetta, another Hideki Kamiya directed action game set for 2009 release on the 360 and PS3. Sega tells us this game will push the limits of the action genre as you take the role of a hyper powered witch who slays “angelic” enemies.

The last title announced was Infinite Line (working Title), a Sci-Fi RPG for the DS. Infinite Line is said to include over 200 characters and 150 customizable spaceships to play with. So if you’ve been looking for a nice in-depth RPG you can play with a stylus, look no further.

Check out the official Sega announcement, and then let us know what you think here.

Assault Heroes 2 Out Today!

May 14th, 2008

assault-heroes.jpg

While many of you know my stance on Xbox Live Arcade shooters, this game may prove me wrong. Assault Heroes was a cult classic in a sense, anyone who bought the game pretty much fell in love with it. I guess the classic vehicular shooting mechanics get a lot of classic gamers happy. In any case, the sequel is out today for 800 Microsoft points.

Too Human Dated, 2 player co-op

May 14th, 2008

thco-op1.jpg

Were you one of the people eagerly looking forward to Too Human’s 4 player co-op? Well i have some bad news for you. As you’ve already guessed from the title, its now been scaled down to 2 players. Which isn’t that bad.. its just well disappointing. As someone who was really looking forward to the 4 player co-op with friends, looks like i’ll just have to take it in turns now with each of them.

Also more importantly while the wait may have felt like an eternity after all the delays, it’s finally got a release date! Too Human will be released August 19th 08 for North America and August 29th 08 in Europe. The wait is almost over! Hit the jump for the press release and feel free to comment about this in our forums HERE.

Pitfall: The Big Adventure Comming Exclusively to the Wii

May 13th, 2008

pitfall.JPG

Activision announced today that they will be reviving the Pitfall series in a new title for the Nintendo Wii. Pitfall: The Big Adventure is slated to hit shelves this fall, though no specific date was named. For our younger readers, it’s worth noting that the Pitfall series is one of the oldest in video game history, stretching back all the way to the original 1982 release on the Atari 2600. Various implementations and sequels of the game have been put out on over a dozen platforms thus far. With this announcement, it should be interesting to see how they apply the Wii controls to the gameplay.

Monday VC Update: Soul Blazer and Tiny Toon Adventures Out Now

May 12th, 2008

soul_blazer_snes_screenshot1.gif

Well, at least we have a successor to ActRaiser here this week. I love ActRaiser, but have never played Soul Blazer. As for Tiny Toons… well, if you like Cartoons it can’t be all that bad, right? Still, the releases aren’t bad, considering WiiWare launched today. I’m counting the days until Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People.

Viva Piñata gets Sequel, Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise

May 12th, 2008

vivapinata2tp-2.jpg

More leaks from the Microsoft Gamers Day 2008 have come in. This time screenshots of the unannounced Viva Piñata sequel called Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. Although unconfirmed by Microsoft, some cleaver internet poster over at Neogaf found folder tags for “Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise” as well as the screenshots on one of Microsoft’s press sites, shortly after they were taken down quickly. Interestingly enough, we can learn quite a bit of what we can expect from Viva Piñata 2.

  • There is 2 cursors present in 2 of the 6 screenshots. Which would suggest co-op!
  • Different locations? One seems set in a “scary” Halloween type setting. The other in an “wintry” Antarctica like setting.
  • Instead of the above, maybe weather feature?
  • New Piñata menu, to scroll between Piñata’s quickly.

This all seems very good to me as the first Viva Piñata was already an amazing game which just had the misfortune of being released the same time as a title like Gears of War. Hopefully the second trip to Piñata world will be more successful for Microsoft and Rare. Hit the gallery below for all 6 screenshots and if you would like to discuss this please visit our forums HERE.
